VALLOUREC REMAINS UNION FREE

UE loses 148 to 367

Congratulations to everyone who took the time and put out the effort to be heard, you made a difference.

United Electrical Workers (UE) is organizing and vote dates have been set. It is important that EVERYONE votes. The union has already started a disinformation campaign stating that “if your going to vote no, then just don’t vote”. This is WRONG, every vote counts and it takes just 50% + 1 vote of ONLY THOSE WHO VOTED to decide whether you start paying union dues or not. If 50 people vote and 26 of them voted for the union, ALL of you will pay union dues.

You have the right to:Participate in meetings to discuss NOT joining a union and to attend meetings to discuss YOUR rights not to join a union.
Distribute, read and discuss non-union literature that outlines reasons against participating in union organizing activity.
WEAR buttons, stickers, t-shirts and hats to show support for your right not to join a union and to refrain from union organizing activity.
NOT SIGN a union membership card and you can demand your card be voided if your were mislead into signing a union membership card.
Circulate and sign petitions to oppose the union.
Join together with your coworkers and others in support of your employer and against union organizing activity.
Organize other employees to rally against the union, to demand the union withdraw and cancel the union election.

I would like to thank all my Vallourec Star brother and sisters for a spirited campaign, now that this vote has been put to rest , I ask that we take the next step to heal our division and work just as hard to unite us so we can make this an even better place to work.

Tomorrow the vote starts, for those who are still undecided I can only say that I hope you would give the company A NO VOTE and not risk all the benefits we enjoy, we have ALOT to lose and very little to gain. Gains will automatically come to us through our hard work. WE are strong without the union.

NONE of what came to me in the mail ( from the UE union local ?????) came from a printing shop embossed with a union logo printing. Take a look guys!! Why are they not affiliated with the AFL-CIO ???? We don’t NEED a union and this group seems really SHAKEY.

I was in a union before and the plant went down, that’s why I came here to work, cause its NON UNION! Let’s keep it that way, this is a great place to work or I wouldn’t drive a hour to and from work everyday if it wasn’t. Let us keep our hard earned money and great benefits and VOTE NO WITH ME.

Looking for non union supporters for an interview with wkbn today at 12 30pm. If instrested please reply to post.

  12. The Owner January 19, 2014 at 04:45 #

I hope for a no vote.
I was in a union 24 years until I apposed much of the money being taken from my from my checks for union slush funds. The union ran me out with their bylaws & fines I could never afford to pay.
I now have a non-union company that does quality work at a very competitive price.
If the steel mill goes union, the chances of my non-union company doing business with the mill go to zero.
    Screw the unions!
Hire local & feed your families.not someone in Washington DC

Just got today’s mail and I’m sitting here looking at the list of benefits that Vallourec offers its employees. I have two questions.
    1. Who is willing to take the chance of letting a SMALL group of dissatisfied employees speak on behalf of all employees?
    2. Who would risk the chance of losing any or all of these benefits?

Don’t sit around and assume that enough of your co-workers will vote to put an end to this union drive. You all must vote. Every employee should think long and hard and take the initiative to vote next week. You owe it to your families, your co-workers and most of all yourselves to keep YOUR voice and not give it to a small group of unhappy employees to make decisions that can have a huge impact on your job and your future. Jobs like my husband’s are not easy to come by. Things aren’t perfect, but they sure could be a lot worse…and they will be a lot worse if this union crap comes to Vallourec. Keep it out. Vote No next week. Stand up for yourselves and keep your own voice, don’t give it away.

You sound just like MY wife! very good points you made.

  14. Upset Wife January 18, 2014 at 16:08 #

I can’t believe some of these guys are willing to gamble with everything they have now just hoping it will get better. What if it gets worse and you guys get a lot less. You’re not the only ones this affects what about your wives and kids at home that are depending on you to be a good provider. Yea, sometimes work sucks, but man up and think about your family too. Vote NO on January 21,22 and 23 and tell the UE to beat it and leave our families alone.

  15. Heat Treat (FQM) January 17, 2014 at 18:03 #

Hey, did ya like the December matrix? Nice huh? Wanna put that up for negotiation? Didn’t think so……….

  16. Heat Treat (FQM) January 17, 2014 at 18:00 #

EVERYONE MUST SHOW UP AND VOTE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A NO VOTE!

Let’s show the UE that we see through the BS and that we know what’s at stake! We are NOT willing to negotiate away ANY of the compensation and benefits that we have now (which are very strong).

    VOTE NO!

  17. Anthony January 17, 2014 at 15:19 #

There is a UE rally tomorrow infront of the the old mill around the visitors parking area ANYONE that wants this thing to be voted down needs to be there and support us. VOTE NO!!!!!!!!!

    • Ray Stewart--Caster Maintenance January 18, 2014 at 19:14 #

how many UE supporters were at the rally?

      • Chad Carpec January 19, 2014 at 08:57 #

Probably about as many that were at their meeting that was televised on the news, looked pretty bleak. Hope it ends that way. Can’t wait to vote No, can’t wait for this to end!!!

      • Paul Kane January 23, 2014 at 14:30 #

I think I saw Billy there.

  18. Anthony January 16, 2014 at 18:19 #

I’ve been told that the UE has been doing house visits and notifying the workers that our Houston facility has had their incentive known as “The Matrix” taken away. So upon further investigation it’s come to my attention that this is once again a piece of factitious information made up and propagated by the UE. The fact is their incentive was modified from monthly to a quarterly incentive. Furthermore it was done three years ago. It really bothers me that the UE is promoting lies about a division of our company that they aren’t even petitioning. ONCE AGAIN IF THEY WILL LIE TO US WHEN WERE DATING WHAT WILL THEY DO WHEN WE ARE MARRIED………….

    • Chris Gallagher January 17, 2014 at 05:13 #

Good investigating work Anthony, I had heard that propaganda also but hadn’t had time to check it out.

I am sure a lot of my Star brother and sisters got the UE mailer inviting them to Kuzman’s
bar on Friday to meet the French Organizers Mr. Yohann Delbauve and CGT union leader , Mr. Philippe Burette .
WHAT is the CGT you ask ? Well according to Wikipedia

A CGT banner during a 2005 demonstration in Paris
The General Confederation of Labour (French: Confédération générale du travail, CGT) is a national trade union center, the first of the five major French confederations of trade unions.

It is the largest in terms of votes (32.1% at the 2002 professional election, 34.0% in the 2008 election), and second largest in terms of membership numbers.

Its membership decreased to 650,000 members in 1995–96 (it had more than doubled when François Mitterrand was elected President in 1981), before increasing today to between 700,000 and 720,000 members, slightly fewer than the Confédération Française Démocratique du Travail (CFDT).[1]

According to the historian M. Dreyfus, the direction of the CGT is slowly evolving, since the 1990s, during which it cut all organic links with the French Communist Party (PCF), in favour of a more moderate stance. The CGT is concentrating its attention, in particular since the 1995 general strikes, to trade-unionism in the private sector.[2] The CGT was most recently[when?] in the news for briefly delaying Stage 3 of the Tour de France on July 7, 2008.

I ask myself why would the UE have to bring in French Organizers who have had a very long history with the French Communist Party from the 1800’s till the mid 1990″s and the answer eludes me . A reasonable person would guess the UE would bring in Satisfied Members from their current membership list , could they not find many members that would stand and speak highly of the work they have done on the members behalf ?
    Makes you go Huh

Good link about the % cards signed the union feels safe going into an election with. The UE got 55% of Vallourec workers. There is very little to no chance this union gets in if everyone goes to vote. Let’s not go the way of Hostess or every other mill in Ytown and be without a job.

    VOTE NO

  21. Chris Gallagher January 16, 2014 at 12:13 #

Only a few days left before the vote, talk to your coworkers, get the
word out give them the information they need, remind them how STRONG we are without the union. The hour is àt hand and lets get this into the endzone..! Thank You to all my brothers and sisters at Vallourec for
making this a world class place to work.

  22. Chris Gallagher January 16, 2014 at 12:02 #

Well my big banner is up and my yardsigns are in. Please keep an eye on them so no. Haters remove them. If you wish to see the banner please drive by gate #1 .the banner is displayed on public property as are the yardsigns. When driving by gate #1 on division street. Honk to show your support. 🙂

You ever notice the people on their flyers there are more than a few guys who are going to retire in 5-10 years or less? Why in the hell are they messing with everyone’s future when they are going to be gone anyway? Don’t let them ruin it for those of us who want to have a good job in place for the next 40+ years. The shale/oil/natural gas market is going to be strong for a LONG time we all can have a great job for the rest of our work lives if we don’t allow a union to ruin it for us just like they did every other steel mill they got their hands on.

    Let’s secure our future!
    VOTE NO!

So I went to the UE office with a list of questions. My main question was a out their strike fund all I wanted to know is why I was having trouble finding the stats on it. I never said one didn’t exist just that I found every financial record of the UE except their strike fund. I thought maybe I was over looking it. The three people couldn’t give me a straight answer although they said one does exist and it has “millions” in it. So I asked please show me proof???? Well I’m sure it’s in the back somewhere if you want me to look and I did. So after being there for over an hour I never did get any info on their strike fund. Then they said well once you establish a local then you will establish a strike fund. So my reply is so what your saying is THERE ISN’T A STRIKE FUND. And there final reply which is the EXACT reason why I think the UE is a very shady operation. ” Well we can’t find any info on the national strike fund but YOU CAN TRUST US IT’S THERE AND IT HAS MILLIONS IN IT. So they are telling me I can’t trust Vallourec for whom I’ve know for years but I can trust them whom I’ve known for an hour. And they can’t find proof of a fund that thousands of workers paid into. So tell me are these the people you want representing you and do you feel comfortable sending them money monthly..

  25. PMSM January 15, 2014 at 23:35 #

So you still want to risk losing that matrix?

  26. mpm young dude January 14, 2014 at 17:15 #

Where else would these union organizers make what we make at Vallourec? Nowhere in this area! Everyone is treated fairly here if I hated my job as bad as these guys say they do I would quit and work somewhere else. Why don’t they? Oh yeah, because they know they won’t find anywhere as close to as good as we have it here!
