Several years ago the support staff of Rio Grande Regional Hospital voted in the SEIU as their collective bargaining agent. After months and years of disappointment, false promises and lack of action, the staff collected enough signatures to request a new vote by the NLRB. The SEIU sensing a huge loss went on the offensive with a huge disinformation campaign as well as filing bogus federal charges that got the election blocked for a year. Finally the day came and the lack of enthusiasm with the union as well as confusion regarding the vote showed in the turnout; but the voice of the employees was heard.

We have no doubt the SEIU will challenge this vote. There are 11 contested votes yet to be counted that should pound more nails in SEIU’s coffin but the union will not listen to the voice of the people and protest anyway.
The hospital I work for (Allegheny General Hospital) has SEIU and many nurses want to get rid of it since it’s such a scam! Some want no union and some want to go with PASNAP.
I have been trying to open the eyes of my fellow co-workers to the lies of SEIU 1199 wb/my/oh. Many of them worked at the hospital when the union was voted in. I believe they don’t want to admit it is a mistake to have them. It may have been the right thing to do in the 80’s, but not now. I think that the announcement of their backing of Clinton may begin to sway some. At least I hope. I want to be able to choose if I want to be union, not be forced into it.
18 long months my coworkers waited. They finally got their day. Sadly, SEIU was spreading their usual lies and it affected voter turnout. Over 100 voters didn’t show up. Many were told the usual “if you don’t vote, it’s just like voting no”…..while others were told the vote was already over at 2pm. One tech found out the truth in the nick of time and made it down there with a mere 8 minutes to spare before the closing of the very last voting session!
